What is Management Information Systems (MIS) and What's New in MIS.

Plenty, in fact, there's a whole new world of doing business using new technologies for managing and organizing. What makes the management information system (MIS) field the most exciting area of study in schools of business in the continuous change in technology, management, and business process.

A management information system (MIS) provides information that organizations require to manage themselves efficiently and effectively .Management information system are typically computer systems used for managing. The five primary components:

1.) Hardware

2.) Software

3.) Data (information for decision making)

4.) Procedures (design,development and documentation)

5.) People (individuals, groups, or organizations)

Management information systems are distinct from other information system because they are used to analyze and facilitate strategic and operational activities.

A continuing stream of information technology innovations is transforming the traditional business world. Examples include the emergence of cloud computing, the growth of a mobile digital business platform based on smartphones, tablet computers, and not least, the use of sosial networks by managers to achieve business objectives.

For instance, the emergence of online media and entertainment stores driven by millions of consumers who prefer iPods and smartphones has forever changed the older business model of distributing music on physical devices, such as records and CDs. Online video rentals are similarly transforming the old model of distributing films through theaters and then through DVD rentals. New high-speed broadband connections to the home have supported these two business changes.
